AI visibility for B2B SaaS: which prompts you lose, and to whom

AI visibility for a B2B SaaS team is how often ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers name your product when a buyer asks which tool to pick. Picked asks those questions every day, shows the prompts you lose and who wins them, and writes the article that goes after the answer.

Picked is an AI visibility tool for SEO and marketing agencies, and B2B SaaS teams. Every day it asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers the prompts your buyers ask, records which brands and pages they name, and writes the article built to become the source they quote.

The problem

Why does a SaaS team need to see AI answers?

A prospect said on a call that ChatGPT recommended your competitor. Nobody on the team knows how often that happens, on which questions, or what to do about it. You can't fix what you can't see, and Google Search Console can't show it: it has no report for AI answers.

  1. See the prompts you lose

The questions a buyer asks before choosing a tool, and the share of answers that name you, per AI model.

  2. See who wins them

The competitors named instead, and how often. Sometimes it's the one you expected. Sometimes it's a directory or a Reddit thread.

  3. See the pages the AI read

Every answer cites sources. That list, yours and everyone else's, is the to-do list: those are the pages the model trusts for the question.

What to track

What should a SaaS team track first?

Start with the questions asked just before a decision. Write them the way a buyer would type them into an assistant, not the way you'd search Google.

  • Best of

    Example
"best [category] tool for [use case]"
    What it tells you
Whether you're one of the options at all
  • Comparison

    Example
    "[your product] vs [competitor]"
    What it tells you
Whose page the AI reads for the head-to-head
  • Alternatives

    Example
    "alternatives to [competitor]"
    What it tells you
Whether you show up when buyers are leaving someone else
  • Use case

    Example
"how do I [job your product does]"
    What it tells you
Whether the AI recommends a tool or a workaround
  • Pricing

    Example
"how much does [category] software cost"
    What it tells you
Which pages set the price the AI repeats

Ten good prompts beat fifty vague ones. Each prompt also shows how many people search something close to it on Google each month, so you can tell a question people ask from one nobody does.

Tracking without writing is a smoke alarm with no extinguisher.
A dashboard that lists the prompts you're missing from and stops there hands the hard part back to you. On Growth and Scale, every prompt you lose becomes a brief, then an article built to be the source the AI quotes, sent to your repo as a pull request.

From lost prompt to article

How does a SaaS team use Picked?

  1. 1

Add your site, your competitors and your prompts

Picked reads your site to suggest prompts, so you start from a list, not a blank page.

  2. 2

    Read the first run

It runs straight away on the AI models you picked. It is your starting line. A new brand is usually named in few answers, and zero is normal.

  3. 3

    Open a prompt you lose

Read the answer, the brands named, and the pages cited. Check whether you are on those pages.

  4. 4

Start an article from Content Gaps

Picked reads the pages the AI cited for that prompt and your own site, then shows a brief for your yes: angle, outline, facts to use, competitors named. Growth and Scale.

  5. 5

Review and merge the pull request

The article is written to answer the prompt in its first sentence, with every claim sourced. Nothing ships until you merge it. No GitHub? Export it as Markdown or HTML.

  6. 6

    Watch the same prompt

It keeps running every day, so you see whether the AI starts naming you and citing the new page.

Picked also reads your site's AI crawler traffic from Cloudflare, Vercel or your own server, so you see which pages the AI opens. The docs walk through each step.

Our data

What does a first run look like?

We run two SaaS products, LaunchOnIt (a launch platform) and Leado (a Reddit lead-generation tool), and track their buyer questions on Picked. On September 27 and 28, 2026 their 10 questions went to five AI models: 70 answers. None of them named either product.

  • 70

    Answers recorded

  • 0

    Answers naming LaunchOnIt or Leado

  • 123

    84%

Links from ChatGPT to the site of a brand the same answer named

  • 2 of 114

Pages ChatGPT cited that were also on Google's first page

Two things follow. The AI links the brands it already picked, so the route to a citation runs through being one of the options. And a Google ranking doesn't carry over: ChatGPT's own searches found different pages from the ones Google ranks for the same question. The ChatGPT citations study has the details.

When not to

When Picked won't help a SaaS team

Honest answer: sometimes this isn't worth your time.

  • You have no site or category yet

AI answers recommend things that exist on the web. Build and publish first.

  • Your buyers don't ask AI

If your customers buy by phone or through a reseller, ask them how they found you before spending a quarter on this.

  • You want a guarantee

Nobody controls what a model says. Picked shows where you're missing and helps you write a better page. That is all.

  • You want one screenshot

Ask ChatGPT yourself, it's free. Picked is for tracking it daily and acting on it: the free AI visibility checker shows where you stand today, no account needed.

The five prompt types in the table above: best of, comparison, alternatives, use case and pricing. Ten prompts, written the way a buyer types them, is a good start. Add more once you've read the first run.

Less than people say. Google describes optimizing for its AI features as still SEO, and the models search the web and read ranked pages. What changes is the scoreboard: one written answer that names a few brands, instead of ten links. Our LLM SEO guide covers where the two differ.

No for tracking. Articles are sent as a pull request to your site's GitHub repository, so someone who can review and merge one is enough; or export the article as Markdown or HTML.

Yes, with a caveat. A new brand is usually named in few answers, so the first weeks show how far you have to go. The prompts you lose, and the pages that win them, are the same list you'd want either way.
