Set up your first project
When you sign up, Picked walks you through this. Nothing here needs a developer.
Before you start
- Confirm your email. Picked sends a link when you sign up, and you can't sign in until you click it. The link signs you in and opens the setup with your company already made. With Google or GitHub there is nothing to confirm.
- Have your competitors in mind. Three to ten brands a buyer would compare you with.
- Think of the questions your sales team hears. Those are your first prompts.
The five steps
- Add your website. Type your domain. Picked reads your homepage to learn your brand name and what you sell, so it can suggest competitors and prompts. You can rename the brand.
- Add your competitors. The brands you want to be compared with, each with its website if you know it. Picked suggests some; keep, remove or add your own, up to 25.
- Pick your prompts. Up to 20 to start, and you can add more later. Picked suggests questions from your site and competitors; ask for another round if they don't fit, or type your own.
- Choose your AI models. The assistants your buyers use.
- Pick a plan. "Start tracking" takes you to the plans. Nothing that costs money runs before you pick one, so the first run starts the moment you do.
Suggestions are limited to 40 a day per person. Past that, type them in or come back tomorrow.
Choosing good prompts
A prompt is the question a buyer types into an AI. The best ones are the questions asked just before a decision:
| Type | Example |
|---|---|
| Best of | "best project management tool for a 20-person agency" |
| Comparison | "Asana vs Monday for agencies" |
| Alternatives | "alternatives to Asana" |
| Use case | "how to track client work across teams" |
Write them the way a person would type them into an assistant, not the way you would search on Google: a full question, with who it's for. Ten good prompts beat fifty vague ones.
Each prompt also shows its demand: how many people search the closest question on Google each month in the US. It fills in a few minutes after you add the prompt. Use it to tell a question people ask from one nobody does.
Group them with topics
A topic is a label for a group of prompts, like "pricing" or "integrations". Every page can then be filtered to one topic. Set a topic when you add prompts, or select prompts on the Prompts page and move them to one. For an agency, topics can also split one client's products.
Adding prompts later
On Prompts, Add prompts takes one per line: paste a list, and bullets and numbers are stripped. New prompts are asked in the next daily run, or straight away with Run now.
The same dialog lists Ideas from your own data, each added with a click:
- Searched by the AI models: what ChatGPT and the others looked up while answering your prompts, with how many answers searched it.
- Your competitors rank for: the keywords from Keyword Gaps, asked the way a buyer would ask an AI, with their monthly searches.
- Suggest prompts writes more from your brand and competitors, and skips what you already track.
The first two fill in after the first run and a Keyword Gaps scan.
Prompts count against your plan's monthly allowance, and a removed one keeps its slot until the month ends. See team, projects and plans.
Choosing AI models
Picked can ask six AI models: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Each plan includes some of them, and the pricing page says how many. Pick the ones your buyers use. When in doubt, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews are where most people start.
If you pick more than your plan includes, Picked keeps them in a fixed order, starting with ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. The order is in which AI models run.
Most models are asked every day. Claude is asked less often, because its answers cost several times more to fetch. The dashboard shows how often each model is asked. Change a project's models any time in Settings, under AI models.
Your project's settings
Settings, then General, under Project settings:
- Project name, which is how the brand is named in answers and reports.
- Website. Answers that cite this domain count as citing you.
- Other names. Anything an AI might call you instead, like a product name, comma-separated. An answer that uses any of them counts as naming you.
- Delete project removes its prompts, answers and tracked brands, and can't be undone. Owners and admins only.
Fill in Brand too before you write articles: your prices, strengths and colour. See write the article.
After the first run
The first run starts as soon as you pick a plan. It is your baseline. Open Prompts to see it, and read reading your results if the numbers look strange. Zero is a normal first result.
From then on, every prompt is asked every day on every model your plan includes. Run now on the Prompts page asks the new prompts and models, and any answer that failed today; everything else waits for the daily run.
